The QR Code in Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky Actually Works: Here's What It Opens

The contact QR code Koharu shows Kakeru in episode 1 of Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky really scans. It opens a page on the anime’s official site written as a LINE chat between the two of them, with text and voice messages you won’t see in the show. We decoded the on-screen code, and there’s a clean copy below so you can scan it from this page instead of pausing the episode. Last checked on 7 October 2026.

There’s a particular kind of viewer who pauses the episode the moment a phone screen fills the frame. If you’re one of them, you know the usual result: a blurry, impossible QR code, a URL that goes nowhere. Studios paint these in because the scene needs a phone, not because they expect anyone to scan it.

This one is different.

The scene

Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky (Tƍmei na Yoru ni Kakeru Kimi to, Me ni Mienai Koi o Shita, or Kakekoi for short) aired from 6 July to 21 September 2026, twelve episodes from studio Makaria, streaming worldwide on Crunchyroll. It’s a quiet university romance. Kakeru Sorano, who barely talks to anyone, meets Koharu Fuyutsuki, who is blind and tells him she’d like to see fireworks one day.

Early in episode 1 the two of them are swapping contact details. Koharu holds out her phone with her contact QR code on the screen and, since she can’t line up a camera herself, asks Kakeru to scan it for her. It’s a small, well-observed moment about what a blind person has to hand off to other people, and the camera stays on the phone long enough for you to get a good look. First over Koharu’s shoulder, then in close-up as Kakeru takes it.

What the code opens

Two days after the episode aired, a fan posted a screenshot of that frame with one line: “You can actually scan the QR code and read Koharu & Kakeru’s chat”. They were right.

The code points to a special page on the anime’s official site. It’s laid out like a LINE conversation between Koharu and Kakeru: short messages with read receipts, timestamps running from 20:45 to 21:16, profile thumbnails, and a few voice messages with play buttons. It reads as the chat the two of them have that evening, after the day you’ve just watched. Koharu thanks Kakeru for his time, mentions a joke that stuck with her, and grumbles about her phone’s voice input not cooperating. It’s in Japanese, and it doesn’t appear anywhere on the site’s menus. The only way in is the code on Koharu’s phone.

That last detail is the nice part. In a story about a character who can’t see her own screen, the hidden extra is a conversation, and you have to do for yourself what Kakeru does for her.

Scan it here

We decoded the on-screen code ourselves. It wasn’t trivial: a fan’s compressed screenshot was too soft for a normal phone scanner, and it took a dedicated decoder to read it. So here is a clean copy, carrying exactly the same address as the one on Koharu’s phone:

Scannable copy of Koharu's contact QR code from episode 1 of Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky
Same destination as the code on screen: the official site’s Koharu & Kakeru chat page.

If you’d rather scan it from the episode itself, a few notes:

  • Pause on the close-up shot, where the phone fills the frame as Kakeru takes it. The over-the-shoulder shot is too small.
  • Scan from a clean stream frame, not a photo of your TV. A camera’s moirĂ© pattern or a screenshot that’s been through a chat app will usually break it.
  • The page is in Japanese. Your phone’s camera translate will handle a chat log fine.

Why it’s worth a post

A QR code in a contact-exchange scene is the natural place to hide a real one, because the scene has to show the phone clearly anyway. Kaguya-sama did it in its season 2 finale in 2020, pointing at the series’ LINE sticker page. Kakekoi takes the same trick and points it at story instead of merchandise, which is a better use of it. A code that resolves to nothing looks lazy to exactly the viewers who care most, and those are the viewers who post the screenshot. Making it real cost someone an afternoon and bought a wave of “wait, it actually works”.

If you want more of the story

The anime is over, and it ends where the novel ends. The original light novel by Nanigashi Shima, illustrated by Raemz, won the GA Bunko Awards grand prize and is only two volumes long. Yen Press publishes it in English, so that’s the easy route.

There’s also a manga adaptation by Hat running on Square Enix’s Manga UP! in Japan, which hasn’t been licensed in English as of this writing. If you want to read it anyway, Madomi translates each page as you scroll, the same way it does for the Japanese publisher platforms. It’s the same tool we use for anything that’s still Japan-only.

Frequently asked questions

Does the QR code in Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky actually work?

Yes. The contact QR code Koharu shows Kakeru in episode 1 is a real, scannable code. It opens a special page on the anime’s official site laid out like a LINE chat between Koharu and Kakeru, with text and voice messages written for the show. We decoded it and reproduced the code above so you can scan it straight from this page.

What is on the page the QR code opens?

A chat between Koharu and Kakeru in the style of a LINE conversation: short text messages with read receipts, timestamps from 20:45 to 21:16, and a few voice messages you can play. It reads as the conversation they have the evening after the day shown in the episode. It’s in Japanese and hosted on the official site.

Which scene has the QR code?

Episode 1, when Koharu and Kakeru exchange contact details. Koharu holds out her phone with her contact QR code on screen and asks Kakeru to scan it for her, since she can’t line up the camera herself. The second shot, where the phone fills the frame, is the one that scans.

Where can I watch Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky?

Crunchyroll streams it worldwide, and Ani-One Asia carries it in Southeast Asia. The anime ran for 12 episodes from 6 July to 21 September 2026, produced by studio Makaria and directed by Joe Yoshizaki.

Where can I read the Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky novel and manga?

The light novel by Nanigashi Shima is published in English by Yen Press and is only two volumes. The manga adaptation by Hat runs on Square Enix’s Manga UP! in Japan and has no English release yet. To read it in Japanese, Madomi by Pawaka Labs translates each page as you scroll.

Go scan Koharu’s code

Before someone forgets to renew the page. If you know of another anime code or address that genuinely resolved to something, we’d like to hear about it; there are a few more we’ll be writing up.
