Kakao’s flagship, and the home of the webtoon adaptations that tend to blow up internationally, Solo Leveling among them. It runs on Wait For Free: read one episode now, and the next unlocks free after a wait, typically somewhere between 12 and 72 hours depending on the title. Look for the clock icon. Patient readers get a long way without paying.

3. Kakao Webtoon (webtoon.kakao.com)

Kakao’s other storefront, with a separate catalogue and a slicker reader. Same Wait For Free mechanic. Worth checking alongside KakaoPage rather than instead of it, since a title on one is often not on the other.

4. Ridibooks (ridibooks.com)

A paid store rather than a free reader, and the strongest catalogue for romance and BL. It sells episodes and volumes rather than running on a wait timer, so it suits readers who would rather pay than wait. 5. Lezhin (lezhin.com)

What about reading it in English?

The English services are real and worth supporting, but they cover far less than people assume.

WEBTOON, Naver’s own English service, carries a selection of the same catalogue. Tapas carries some of Kakao’s. Manta, Tappytoon and Lezhin’s English site each have their own slices. Add them all together and you still have a fraction of what is running in Korean this week.

Then there’s timing. Even a licensed series usually trails its Korean release by months, and for a long-running title that gap can be a hundred episodes or more. Even a title as well served as Solo Leveling finished in Korean at the end of 2021 and didn’t wrap up in English until April 2022, and four months is one of the better outcomes. For anything without a licence, the gap simply never closes.

One honest caveat about the Korean platforms: reading free episodes from abroad is straightforward, but paying is not always. Korean services often expect a Korean payment method or identity verification, so for most international readers the practical route is Naver’s free schedule plus Kakao’s Wait For Free rather than buying coins.
